Dad was a kind and loving man, who had strong convictions about his faith, his duty to God and country and family, and the free enterprise system of our country. Between high school and college, Dad served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military tour of duty, Dad continued his schooling at the University of Arizona. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent his entire working career with the power company, Arizona Public Service. I have many fond memories of Dad as the coach or manager of my little league baseball team for about 5 summers in a row while I was a kid growing up in Phoenix. Dad was also instrumental in helping to start the Kactus Kickers Hiking Club, to which our family belonged for several decades. Dad was active in the U.S. Navy Reserves for many years. He was also a member of the Phoenix Toastmasters Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. Even in retirement and old age, Dad still enjoyed hiking the mountains, canyons, and trails all over Arizona. He is likely still hiking around Heaven.

A page from Dads Memorial Service bulletin included an
original poem that he had written during an earlier era
when writing poetry was a favorite hobby.

Photo of Tom, Greg, Dad and Pam at the trail head of the
South Kaibab Trail on the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
Photo was taken at the start of a rim-to-rim-to-rim hike
over several days back in the late 1980s. We hiked from
the South Rim to Phantom Ranch and continued north to the
Cottonwood Campground and out to the North Rim. We stayed
in cabins near the Lodge and recovered for a couple days
before we turned around and did the same hike in reverse.
