Vacation In Hawaii - July 1999

Date of last edit = 12/31/2002
It took a loooong time for us to get to Hawaii because it is sooooo far away.
We flew from Houston to Los Angeles, and then from Los Angeles to Honolulu, and
then from Honolulu to Lihue Airport on the island of Kauai. We rented a car and
drove only about 1 mile to get to the Kauai Marriott Resort. The entrance to
this resort featured the largest escalator on the island. This resort also had
the largest swimming pool on all of the Hawaiian Islands.
We were at there along with Greg and Pam and their kids, Karen & Dana.
Greg had arranged an extra timeshare exchange immediately next door to their unit
that we used for the week. Both of our resort units had outside patios that overlooked
the beach. We were about 9 floors up, so we had an excellent view for miles.
Tom's sister Pam was also there to stay with us. She flew up from Johnston Island,
where she was working on a contract job. Katie Beth and Jeremy had a good time
playing and visiting with their Auntie Pam.
While in Kauai, we drove up some mountain roads to Wiamea Canyon in the center
of the island. Tom fell on the crushed rock surface, and scraped up his leg.
We later drove around to the north side of the island, where we went to the beach,
visited some tourist attractions. Late in the week, we went on a boat cruise scenic
tour and then to a luau and learned to dance the "hookelau".

We drove up the eastern side of the Island and stopped
at the Kilauea Lighthouse. We saw a colony of seals catching
rays on a small island just a bit offshore from the lighthouse.
